The construction of boilers in Bulgaria began in 1929 when the co-operation “Napredak-Steam Boiler” was established.
After the nationalization of the Bulgarian industry in 1947, the State- owned Boiler-Construction Plant “Georgi Kirkov” was founded
ITEM Engineering – Sofia is a successor of “Base for technical development for boiler construction and chemical engineering which was part of the Boiler-Construction Plant “Georgi Kirkov” – Sofia. The base was established in 23 April 1963 with the following scope of activity:

Steam boilers and hot water boilers including design and delivery of:

- Complete set of boiler stations;
- Drying –rooms and drying –stoves
- All kinds of heat exchanging appliance;
- Machines, apparatuses and equipment for chemical industry;
- Purification equipment for waste water, flue gases and air treatment;

Between 1963 and 1991 the enterprise was under the governance of Ministry of Mechanical Engineering.During that period it changed its structure several times and became a leading institute in the field of heating technologiy, power engineering and chemical industry. The firm has provided engineering services to almost all large industrial plants in the electrical power and chemical industry, such as

Thermo-electric power station /TEPS/, the Atomic electric power plant / AEPP/, Chimco-Vratsa, Neftochim-Bourgas,Chemical plants-Devnya,Copper production mill-Pirdop and other large industrial enterprises of national –scale importance.

The firm took active part in the completion of the “Heavy machine-construction plants” in Radomir, Pleven,Rouse, Haskovo etc.

On September 5, 1991 with Order No 176 of The Bulgarian Ministry of Industry , ITEM has been transformed into ITEM Engineering LTD.

In 1997 the Sofia Civil Court registered “ITEM Engineering” JSC –Sofia as it exists currently.

ITEM Engineering JSC has 3500 sq. m. covered manufacturing area.

The firm has realized its production in different countries including Russia, Poland, India, Germany, Czech Republic, Cuba, Yugoslavia, Hungry etc.

In the past few years ITEM Engineering JSC has unfolded successful activity on the domestic market in cooperation with foreign firms.
